The Diploma of Business (Fashion and Global Brand Management) is designed to equip students with business skills, combined with an introduction into the exciting, trillion-dollar fashion industry. 

This qualification will equip you with industry-relevant skills and knowledge for a successful career in fashion and retail management. You will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of business – and have the practical skills for an immediate contribution to the specialised area of fashion.

Aimed at meeting the growing demand for qualified entry-level graduates within the Australian fashion and retail sector, the Diploma of Business (Fashion and Global Brand Management) produces professionals who are confident, competent and capable of taking their place in a competitive global environment. 

The Diploma of Business (Fashion and Global Brand Management) offers you a stand-alone diploma qualification through the Aspire Institute or, should you wish to further your studies, you could choose to use your diploma qualification as a pathway into the second year of a Bachelor of Business (Fashion and Global Brand Management) at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS).

Upon successful completion of the Diploma of Business you will receive advanced standing for subjects which are part of a bachelor degree at ICMS.

All Aspire diploma students are part of the greater ICMS student community, with lectures held at our Northern Beaches Campus or at our new City Campus, subject to availability. Aspire students receive dedicated academic support, including study skills.

Introduction to the Fashion and Retail Industry (FBM101A)

Retailing is the process of selling merchandise to consumers that offer value and engagement through a successful exchange of goods and services.

The retail industry has transformed and evolved over the last several decades, spearheaded through technological development. This encompasses traditional bricks and mortar stores, e-commerce and online retailers.

The fashion retail industry shapes and influences what we wear, what we look like and how we live, with its increasingly sophisticated consumer demanding more. Fashion retailing activities need strategic planning, and analytical methodology viewed from several perspectives; the consumer, the competition, the category and the retail company. Across these four perspectives, we examine the functions of retailing, consumer buying behaviour, external influences affecting retail operations as well as the key thinking needed to be a successful player in the industry.

The aim of this subject is to provide students with an overview of the nature and scope of fashion retailing. Topics covered include; types of retailers, fashion categories, operations and management, retail pricing, inventory, corporate social responsibility (CSR), along with the elements required to develop and maintain fashion retail operations that are critical in this constantly evolving environment.

Styling and Creative Direction (FBM102A)

Having a clear creative message is a vital requirement for any fashion retailer or brand. Delivering products that reflect the brand image that is well loved by consumers, requires buyers and stylists to demonstrate an understanding of not just the latest trends, but insight into the needs and wants of their customers’ buying behaviour and lifestyles.  Knowledge of how customers work, eat and live in your range, along with effective styling techniques delivers to a consumer’s lifestyle, drives intrigue and leads to the eventual purchase of products.

The aim of this subject is to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of working in the fashion and trend focused retail environment including clothing and accessories. This subject examines creative development including fashion stories and range plans. Topics covered include creative and brand direction, case studies of style icons, personal and commercial styling techniques, fashion history, trend forecasting, merchandising and visual storytelling.
