For those with a love of people and travel, it’s hard to go past a career in hospitality. The Diploma of Hospitality Management equips you with the skills needed for a successful career in the diverse and fast-paced hospitality industry. As your career develops, the knowledge and experience gained while studying the Diploma of Hospitality Management could take you to workplaces as diverse as international hotels, resorts, cruise ships, and restaurants. Others have taken the plunge and opened their own hospitality business.

The Diploma of Hospitality Management offers you a stand-alone ICMS qualification delivered through the Aspire Institute or, should you wish to further your studies, you could choose to use your diploma qualification as a pathway into a bachelor program at ICMS, with completed specialisations and subjects counting towards your degree. Upon successful completion of the Diploma of Hospitality Management you will receive advanced standing for subjects in an ICMS bachelor degree.

All Aspire students are part of the ICMS student community, with lectures held at our Northern Beaches Campus and core business subjects at our new City Campus, subject to availability. Aspire Institute is proven in its ability to provide reputable English language lessons and support through Aspire English, which operates from the same campuses. All Aspire students receive personalised support to maximise success in their studies.

The Student Success Centre (SSC) provides Academic Learning Advisors at all campuses to help Aspire students develop academic skills and adapt to tertiary student life. Based primarily in Manly, with advisors also available at the City Campus on designated days, the SSC offers flexible online and face-to-face appointments. Support includes:

Introduction to Tourism, Hospitality and Events (THE101A)

Tourism, hospitality and events industries play an important role in the economies of developed and emerging countries. These industries generate substantial employment, personal and corporate income, tax revenues, foreign exchange earnings, investments, and infrastructure improvements for communities globally. 

This subject aims to provide a solid introduction to the key concepts and terminology, stakeholders and relationship, innovation, current trends and management issues, as a foundation for future tourism, hospitality and event subjects.

It also focuses on the dynamic nature of the main operational sectors with an emphasis on potential career opportunities.

Rooms Division Operations (HOS101A)

This subject investigates the most significant department in a hotel or resort, Rooms Division, through the study and practical application of front office operational procedures.

In this subject current property management software, STR (Smith Travel Report) data and simulations are used to introduce students to the complexities of managing this area of a hotel or resort. Students will gain key knowledge required to manage this department including the principles and procedures involved in the provision of quality guest lodging with emphasis on front office, housekeeping and security and an introduction to yield management.

The subject highlights the importance of clear and timely communication and collaboration both within the department and externally.
