Property development

This subject introduces you to basic land identification practices and the key legislative framework relating to land
use in NSW. It develops an awareness of planning controls and processes and identifies the need to operate
within the constraints of these guidelines. It also includes a study in the operation of Local Government and the
Land and Environment Court of NSW.

To understand the importance of land use controls as they apply to property development projects and the highest and best use of land. To provide you with the ability to access and analyse the legislative and statutory framework that affects the development and use of land.

The strategies to achieve these outcomes will be formal lectures, general application of theory to reality based  problems with self-study and research.

1. Explain the features of property plans (survey / cadastral plans )

2. Research relevant planning controls and records.

3. Determine the effects of planning legislation as it applies to a particular property’s highest and best use.

4. Explain the planning processes and the operation of the Land and Environment Court in NSW.

5. Complete all the requirements of a development application

Exams will take place in weeks 12 & 13. Please refer to the official Exam Timetable for further information. Students are required to prepare for assessments by reading the subject matter in course notes, handouts and readings. Class work and practical application of theory assist in reinforcing the importance of this subject’s topics. Each student is required to participate in class discussions and activities.
