Rationale

This subject is a study of key business principles addressing the fundamentals about business that include understanding the nature of business, how to set business goals, what business approaches should be taken and what is the management process within a business. The subject also examines how to identify the product life cycle and environmental concerns that may affect a business.

Key business principles will be examined throughout the course along with real life case studies and business scenarios. Students will be tasked with analysing the key business principles that make up a business plan including their vision, mission and values statements, using a SWOT analysis to assist this process.

Learning Outcomes

a) Work independently and in groups to achieve appropriate goals in a set time frame

b) Communicate business information, ideas and issues, using relevant business terminology and concepts in appropriate forms

c) Identify the role, importance and interdependence of key business functions in the operation of a business

d) Describe the internal and external factors contributing to the success or failure of business

e) Understanding the responsibilities of business to internal and external stakeholders
